A note on Iran “New” Value Added Tax (VAT) of 23 May 2021

The Permanent Value Added Tax Act was approved on 23 May, 2021 and entered into effect on the 3 January, 2022. The implementation of this Act has caused changes in the Iranian tax system which aims to increase the prosperity of businesses and make taxes more effective. Prior to this, for about 13 years since September 2008, the temporary VAT Act had been implemented in Iran.

The Law on Facilitation of Business Licensing

What changes has the Facilitation of Business Licensing Act made to issuance of business licenses?

On March 15, 2022, the Iranian parliament passed a law called the “Facilitation of Business Licensing Act” (FBL). The implementation of this Act has started since May 30, 2022 after the notification made by the President of Iran in this respect. The FBL has 5 articles and 16 notes, the purpose of which is to remove unnecessary barriers to business applicants in the country.
